The house is situated in the Village of Rigaud, which is 45 minutes from downtown Montreal, l hour from Ottawa, the nation's capital, a three hour drive to Quebec City and has recently been awarded 4 stars from Tourism Quebec. The house is two stories and is set on a 5 acre property on the River. There are wonderful gardens and a heated inground pool. The ground floor has a downfilled sofa, easy chairs, an armoire filled with books, T.V. with satelite and a DVD player. There is a bathroom on this floor and a stone fireplace. Upstairs are two very large bedrooms, beautifully decorated, both with new air conditioners for hot nights.
There is a huge bathroom with tub and shower and behind louvered doors a washing machine and dryer. The kitchen is huge with a dining area and a seating area with stereo. The kitchen is fully equipped and certainly gourmet meals could be cooked here (fresh herbs are available in the garden as are flowers for the table). There is lawn furniture and an eating table with 6 chairs and umbrella and a Webber bar-b-que for cooking outdoors. The pool area has lounge chairs, umbrellas and there is a fridge to put your favourite libations. The area has the Notre Dame Sanctuary which holds Mass outside and the chanting of the priests can be heard across the river. There is Rigaud Mountain to hike on, cross country ski and alpine ski on during the winter months. There are flea markets, and small shops in the Village of Rigaud and the nearby picturesque Village of Hudson with many, many, good restaurants. Many guests leave for the day and explore Old Montreal, the port and have a gourmet meal at one of the many fine restaurants. You can visit the National Gallery in Ottawa and come back in time for a swim and dinner. There are two other vacation areas, the Laurentians and the Eastern Townships. Both can be reached from our Auberge in an hour and there are many lakes and things to do in both areas. The owners live in the main house on the property and are there for information but you are assured of privacy. The house is rented as self-catering, clean linen (i.e. sheets and towels) are provided weekly.
